have been inscribed on UNESCO World Heritage List. The site comprises the historic churches of Mtskheta, former capital of Georgia, which represent outstanding examples of the high accomplishments of medieval religious architecture in the Caucasus.
This is the third Georgia’s site included into the World Heritage List.
AZERBAIJAN: Teze Pir Mosque (Baku) re-opened after reconstruction. After intensive restoration and reconstruction works Teze Pir mosque complex has been re-opened.
... full textIn 2005 there was worked out the plan on restoration of the mosque and reconstruction of adjoining territories. The restoration of Teze Pir mosque was aimed at giving the mosque its original appearance as well as at adding new elements, non-detrimental to the initial architecture.
In the course of reconstruction works the adjoining territory was cleaned, the basement of the mosque was opened, the wall cracked stone blocks were substituted for new ones. The warped wooden doors and windows were replaced with the ones from redwood, whereas instead of decrepit banisters there appeared wrought iron handrail. Inside the mosque there was installed new technological ventilation system, the floor was deepened by 30 cm and covered with a big carpet able to accommodate 720 people. Under the floor there was installed a modern heating system.
The most interesting innovation is the interior of the mosque. The walls (total surface is about 1400 square metres) and the interior of the dome are decorated with murals representing the best traditions of Azerbaijani and oriental painting art. The central mehrab is decorated withof glazed tiles and marble. The windows of the dome are embellished with lace-like wooden trellises. The decorative elements, domes and a band of inscription of the minarets are guilded with pure gold. The outer dome is faced with stone slabs and has a 1.6 metre high stone steeple on the top.
Teze Pir mosque is a Moslem sanctuary. Its construction was initiated in the times of Shrvanshakhs and was completed in 1914. The mosque was created by one of the philanthropist and noblest women of Baku – Nabat khanum Ashurbeily and a famous architect Ziver bek Akhmedbekov.

... full textThe construction of the complex was initiated by “KER-Holding” company from Tatarstan (Russian Federation). The company specialists intend to realize a bold idea of creating on the Caspian sea the world’s first ski centre located in southern latitudes. The complex will occupy the area of 20 000 square metres and will be functioning all year round. One of the main attractions of the complex is a ski tunnel 1200 m in length, 20 metres in width and 8 metres in height. Inside the tunnel there will be constructed three ski tracks. Each track will be more than 2 kilometres long and will have a six-metre vertical drop. The basis for the ski tracks is a huge cooled concrete slab transpierced with special tubes in which there runs cooling mixture. The slab will be cooled to minus 10-15 degrees Celsius. With the help of a snow-making unit, 1–1.5 metres deep snow cover will be spread on the slab. This artificial snow will be generated from ordinary fresh water. Inside the Ski centre the temperature will be maintained at minus 3-5 degrees Celsius. The ski tracks can serve up to 120 skiers at a time. The complex can become a wonderful event venue for sport competitions, entertainment shows, as well as a base for training sportsmen and beginners, including children. The Ski centre will also feature a skating ring, a snow slide for children, fitness centre, some premises for renting skiing gear. Apart from being a multifield health and leisure centre, the complex will become a unique tourist attraction of Turkmen Caspian seaside.

... full textThe decision was made during the 33rd session of the World Heritage Committee in June this year after the Ministry of Culture of Kyrgyzstan submitted to the Committee the site conservation management-plan for the period of 2008-2012. Sulaiman-Too is a five-peak lime rocky mount stretching from west to east. Its length is 1140 metres, whereas its width is 560 metres. Over several millennia the mount has been revered as sacred place. This is proved by numerous petroglyphs found here. Until present day Sulaiman-Too mountain is worshipped by Central Asian Moslems who believe that three-fold pilgrimage to Sulaiman-Too mountain is equated to a pilgrimage to Holy Mecca. On one of the mountain slopes there was built the Museum of Sulaiman-Too. On the top of the mountain there stands That-i-Sualaiman mosque which is said to have been built by Bobur, founder of the Moghul Dynasty, in the 16th century, Ravat-Abdullakhan mosque dating to the 16th century, Asaf-ibn-Burkhiya mausoleum – a monument of the 18th century, and a small hujra often called “the Bobur’s house”. On Sulaiman-Too Mountain there are also caves Chakka tamar and Tepeunkur. The eastern foothills accommodate the remains of medieval bathhouse dating to the 11th–14th centuries.

... full textThe lake lies in the northeastern part of Tarim Basin of Xinjiang- Uygur Autonomous Region, and is one of the most barren areas of China. It occupies the area of 100 000 square kilometers. It was once an important station on the Silk Road. The total length of the railway line is 360 km. The construction of this railway will have a big impact on the development of tourism in the region. The new railway line crosses the territory of Hami province in the east of Xinjiang and Baingolen-Mongol autonomous region. In Hami it is connected with the mainline railroad Langjou–Urumchi. Another railroad which is under the construction now, is the Zinghe–Inin–Horgos railway line – the first electrified railroad in Xinjiang. By autumn the construction of Zinghe–Inin sector of the railway line will be completed and the Urumchi–Inin line will be put into operation.
